  1. 1969 – the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology creates a section of economics of air pollution protection. The work is headed by Candidate of Economic Sciences Balatsky O.F. The section has 4 full-time employees.
  2. Since 1972, the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology has been operating a laboratory of economics of air pollution. With the increase in the volume of scientific work, the staff of the laboratory’s full-time employees has reached 18 people. The range of research of the laboratory is expanding. Its scientific authority is growing. At the same time, the number of students involved in research work is increasing.
  3. In 1976, the Department of Economics, Organization and Management of Mechanical Engineering Production was created on the basis of the laboratory, which was headed by Balatsky O.F.
  4. In 1978, the number of full-time employees already amounted to 7 teachers and 23 employees. The staff of the department is almost completely staffed by specialists trained in the laboratory.
  5. By 1986, the number of full-time employees of the department had increased to 42 people.
  6. In 1991, the first intake of students in the specialties “Economics and Management of Mechanical Engineering”, “Production Organization” took place.
  7. In 1993, by separating from the Department of Economics, Organization and Management of Mechanical Engineering Production, 3 departments were created – “Management”, “Economics” and “Finance” respectively (Rector’s Order No. 63-I dated 01.07.1993). Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Balatsky Oleg Fedorovych was appointed the first head of the Department of Management, which he headed from 01.07.1993 to 31.08.2002. During this time, the team of the newly created department is being formed, and scientific and educational work is actively being conducted.

    Since 1995, the specialty “Management in the Production Sector” has been opened, and in 1996 the first graduation of certified specialists (“Production Organization”) took place, with 13 out of 33 students receiving diplomas with honors. In 1998, the specialty “Management of Organizations” was opened.

    Since 01.09.2002, the Department of Management has been headed by Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Oleksandr Mykhailovych Telizhenko. The Department of Management has become a powerful structural unit of the university, which has more than 40 teachers, postgraduate students and doctoral candidates. Since 2007, the best graduates of the Department of Management, in addition to the national diploma, receive an international certificate IES (International Education Society). Carrying out daily work on training specialists for the national economy, the staff of the department directs its efforts to further development.

    A number of specialties “Administrative Management”, “Project Management”, “Public Service”, “Healthcare Management and Administration” are opened at the department. The circle of applicants is expanding due to the training of foreign citizens at the department. Since 2015 (according to the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated 06.11.2015 No. 1151), applicants have been trained in two specialties: 073 “Management” and 281 “Public Management and Administration” with the corresponding educational programs.

    From September 11, 2019, the acting head of the department is Shvindina Anna Oleksandrivna, Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor. The department has taken a course towards the internationalization of its activities and the implementation of the “Virtual Classroom”. Subsequently, the candidacy of Shvindina H.O. was approved at meetings of the department, institute and Academic Council. And from November 01, 2020, the department was renamed the Oleg Balatsky Department of Management.

    From November 15, 2021 the department is headed by Doctor of Economics, Professor Igor Ivanovych Rekunenko. Modern conditions of personnel provision of enterprises, scientific and methodological needs require the creation of branches of the departments on the basis of leading enterprises of the city and region. Today, a branch of the Department of Management operates at PJSC “Sumykhimprom” and Concern “NIKMAS”. The Department has a Laboratory of Ideas and a Problem Laboratory of Socio-Economic Research. The results of research are published in the scientific publications of the department “Bulletin of SumDU. Economics Series” (professional publication of category B) and the Scientific and Practical Internet Conference “Modern Management and Economic Development”
