Developing leadership qualities among young people is an important part of preparing a new generation of active, responsible, and initiative-taking citizens. That is why classes in the course “Leader: A Person Who Changes the World” are being held at Sumy Lyceum No. 9 for senior students. The course is taught by Svitlana Rybalchenko, Senior Lecturer at the Oleg Balatskyi Department of Management.
The course is aimed at developing students’ practical leadership skills, self-awareness, responsible decision-making, teamwork, and goal-setting. During the classes, students not only acquire new knowledge but also analyze their strengths, identify their personal values, work in teams, and explore ways to turn their own ideas into reality.
Particular attention is paid to understanding leadership as responsibility and a willingness to contribute to positive change. Students discuss the difference between a formal manager and a true leader, how freedom can be combined with responsibility, what shapes motivation, and why values are an important foundation of leadership behavior.
The classes are conducted through open dialogue, discussions, practical exercises, case studies, and teamwork. This approach helps students apply what they learn to real-life situations while developing their communication and social competencies.
Leadership begins with understanding yourself, taking responsibility for your choices, and being ready to act. These qualities help young people not only achieve their own goals but also create positive change around them.
