SumDU Joins International Cooperation to Promote Good Governance and Accountability in Public Administration

On 18–20 October 2026, a working meeting was held in Jūrmala and Riga, Latvia, within the framework of the international project Good Governance and Accountability in Public Administration (GAAP), implemented with the support of the Swedish Institute (SI).

Sumy State University (SumDU) was represented at the meeting by:

  • Ihor Rekunenko – Doctor of Economics, Professor, Head of the Department;
  • Yuliia Matvieieva – PhD in Economics, Associate Professor;
  • Anastasiia Niesheva – Assistant Lecturer.

The project is coordinated by Jönköping International Business School, Jönköping University (Sweden), and aims to develop professional competencies in public administration, good governance, and accountability.

The working meeting programme included an assessment of the outcomes of previous training activities, an exchange of experience among representatives of Ukraine, Moldova, and Sweden, the identification of effective educational approaches, and the development of proposals for further international cooperation. One of the key areas of work was the joint development of a concept for an Executive Programme training module tailored to the needs of Ukraine and Moldova. An important part of the visit was a meeting with the management of the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga (SSE Riga). Discussions focused on strategic initiatives, the development of executive education programmes, the management of business education institutions, and opportunities to strengthen institutional partnerships

The participation of SumDU representatives in the international project contributes to the University’s integration into the European educational and professional community, facilitates the exchange of experience with international partners, and supports the development of approaches to training professionals in public administration. The proposals developed during the meeting provide a foundation for further cooperation among Ukraine, Moldova, and Sweden in developing professional competencies, promoting good governance, and strengthening accountability.

International partnerships, the exchange of experience, and the joint development of educational solutions are essential to improving public administration and advancing modern university education.
