On his birthday, Arkady Yurievich told us about his life, plans and ideas.

Tell us how you came to science?

A very important person, Oleh Fedorovich Balatsky, appeared in my life. He was selecting a team. I studied in the technical specialty "Machines and apparatus of chemical production", but in the 2nd year Oleg Fedorovich Balatsky noticed that I play volleyball well and invited me to the sports team, and then to the scientific one.

These were very interesting and useful times! Then I realized that I like economics more than technical specialties. Although I was invited to study for a postgraduate degree at the department I graduated from. But I have been working with Oleg Fedorovich for 3 years and these years have completely changed my direction. It should be noted that the topic on which we conducted research was at the intersection of two areas: ecology and economics and was called: "Economics of Natural Resources and Environment." It is on this topic that the functioning of the Faculty of Economics, and now the Institute of Finance, Economics and Management, began.

You have more than 45 years of teaching experience, do you remember students who will be remembered for a lifetime?

First of all, excellent students are remembered in each group. There are not many of them (2-3 people), but they can solve scientific problems.

The other group is students who study badly. But in the future they became directors of enterprises. They are very good managers because they have learned to solve difficult problems during their studies.

I remember very well my first group, where I was the curator. Today, almost 80% of graduates have become managers at enterprises across the country.

Are students different now and 45 years ago?

The first issues had a strong training. At that time, most students studied "good" and "excellent". Economic and engineering specialties at that time were very prestigious, so there was a very high competition for them.
