Implementation of the First Training Module of the International Project “Good Governance and Accountability in Public Administration”

From May 19 to 23, 2025, representatives of the Oleg Balatsky Department of Management of Sumy State University — in particular, Ihor Rekunenko, Head of the Department, and Yuliia Matvieieva, Senior Lecturer — visited Chișinău (Republic of Moldova) to participate in the first training module of the international project GAAP: “Good Governance and Accountability in Public Administration”, implemented with the financial support of the Swedish Institute (SI).

At the Universitatea de Stat din Moldova (State University of Moldova), Andrei Mulic and Maria Hamuraru, together with Swedish partners Timur Uman, Yuliya Khvatsik, Olof Brunninge, and Chantal Coté, shared their expertise in local governance with representatives of eight communities from the Sumy region and the Sumy Regional Development Agency.

The GAAP project is implemented as a modular and interactive training program aimed at civil servants, public sector managers, and other key stakeholders in public administration.

During an intensive week, participants engaged in meetings, workshops, lectures, and valuable professional exchanges with experts from Sweden, Ukraine, and the Republic of Moldova. The Ukrainian delegation also visited the university’s science hubs and the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History.

The official opening of the first module was marked by the participation of distinguished guests and partner institutions. The Ukrainian delegation was welcomed by:

  • The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova,
  • A representative of the Embassy of Sweden in Moldova,
  • The Deputy Mayor of Chișinău,
  • A representative of the Swedish Institute,
  • The leadership of the State University of Moldova.

It is expected that the implementation of this project will contribute to strengthening the capacity of local communities, fostering international cooperation, and improving governance practices at the local level.
