Tetyana Mayboroda – SUNY COIL Ambassador for 2025–2026!

Dr. Tetyana Mayboroda, Associate Professor at the O.Balatskyi Department of Management, Deputy Head of the International Affairs Office, has been appointed as a SUNY COIL Ambassador  (State University of New York Collaborative Online International Learning Global Network ) for 2025–2026. She is the only representative from a Ukrainian university to receive this honor. This recognition highlights both her personal contribution and that of Sumy State University to the internationalization of higher education and leadership in COIL initiatives.

It is worth noting that the Department of Management at SumDU was the pioneer of COIL in Ukraine, launching the first collaborative module back in 2019 in partnership with Professor Dipra Jha (University of Nebraska, USA), as well as universities from Kosovo, Colombia, the UAE, India, Mauritius, Nigeria, and beyond.

Since then, COIL modules have become a regular part of both the department’s and the university’s academic practices. They have been integrated into various bachelor’s and master’s level programs, enabling students to work in intercultural teams, develop global competencies, digital skills, and critical thinking. Today, COIL is an integral part of SumDU’s educational environment, opening new horizons for international academic cooperation – particularly essential in times of limited physical mobility due first to COVID-19 and now the ongoing war in Ukraine.

“Facilitating COIL has been one of the most meaningful experiences in my teaching. Sumy State University was the first university in Ukraine to launch COIL back in 2019, and today, under the extreme conditions of war, its value is greater than ever.

For students who cannot travel, especially those in frontline regions like Sumy, and for those Ukrainian classmates who have been displaced across different countries, COIL provides a vital union and a window to the world. It connects them with international peers, fosters intercultural dialogue, and keeps them engaged in the global academic space.

COIL builds empathy, resilience, and a sense of purpose – helping students see that they still have a voice and a future beyond borders.” – these were the words of Tetyana Mayboroda during the SUNY COIL Global Network Ambassadors’ meeting marking nomination.

Our sincere congratulations to Dr. Tetyana on this remarkable achievement and best wishes on her continued inspiration in launching new global initiatives!
