On 12th of February 2020 the meeting between students in management major and commercial director of the private company took place during the class. There were students of the third and fourth year. The discussion was interesting and inspiring for both sides. Mrs Oksana shared her experience, offered an excursion to the company. The students expressed their willingness to have an internship at the unmentioned company and their wish to join the company team. This is not the last meeting, Mrs Oksana has a lot of other ideas for cooperation. We should acknowledge professor Zhulavskyi A., who is an initiator and organizer of this event.

Mykyta Kovalevskyi, the second-year student of Management, is an author and coordinator of the project “Kids-Friendly City”. The main idea is to reduce the stress in the process of preparation and testing of the pupils who are passing the External independent evaluation (EIT). The statistical data proves that approximately 20% of mistakes are done due to stress. It’s not a secret that EIT causes a lot of stress that leads to health damage, including emotional disorders.

Within the “Kids-Friendly City” project the meeting took place in 21st of January at Congress-Center of Sumy State University. The discussion was provided by first-year student Vlasdyslav Piven, the member of Small Academy of Science, and civic activist and public figure Evgenyi Kozolup.

This project is supported by many city institutions and city activists. Galyna Plahotnykova, director of Informational Center of the Department of Education and Science of Sumy City Council, gave a speech to support this project. The pupils who are going to pass the EIT this or coming years had an opportunity to meet the professional phycologists of Sumy State University psychological service, Ludmila Kolisnyk and Anna Chernyakova. Mykyta mentioned as an author and coordinator of this project moderated the event.

The next stage of the project is the set of training “EIT without the stress”. The first pieces of training are planned to take place on the 5th and 7th of February. It’s notable that the registration has been going on till 20th of December 2019. More than 100 people have been registered and more than 10 gave a call to the organizers to join after the first meeting because of positive feedbacks.

XII Forum Europe-Ukraine “New opportunities, old threats” was held in the Polish city of Rzeszow on February 4-5. The students of specialty “Management” and “Public Administration” supervised by PhD student of the department, Niesheva Anastasiia, took place in the Forum invited by the Institution of Eastern Research and Podkarpackie Voivodeship. 

Bogdan Verzhbinsky, the deputy dean of Social Science Collage of Rzeszów University, and Zygmunt Berdychowski, the head of the Program Council of Economic Forum in Krynytska were the guests of honour and had a discussion with our students. There were panel discussions, debates, and workshops during the Forum. As previous years, the Forum became a place for the meeting of politicians, the representatives of public authorities, leaders of the entrepreneurships, experts and journalists from Ukraine and the EU countries. The information of the Forum Europe-Ukraine was concentrated mostly on key aspects of modification and development of economy of Ukraine, local authorities  development, efficiency of natural resources use, regions potential and new opportunities to cooperate.

“What was the most interesting? – Speakers, topics, events!” that’s short answer of our students. Indeed, the topics are wide and actual. “Shaping the future”, for instance, is a big panel on the cooperation between youth in Europe, interstate and global projects. A lot of discussions were concentrated on how to strengthen the international activities between Ukraine and other countries.

Sumy State University, upon invitation from the department, was visited by Gavrilyuk Maxim Petrovich, chairman of the Expert Council of Employers with a degree in Public Administration, deputy head of the Interregional Department of the State Agency of Ukraine for Public Administration in Kharkov and Sumy regions. On 30th of January, on this Thursday, Mr Gavrilyuk gave a lecture on Ukrainian specific processes of European integration and the role of public servants in these transformations. The lecture was provided for undergraduate students of the department, during which the practitioner demonstrated, using the German experience as an example, the features of the organization of the national public service and its interactions with the EU governing bodies.

This event has become one of the many practice-oriented events organized by the team member of the Department of Management, Demikhov O., Ph.D. (focused on Public Administration).

The long-awaited event took place on 5h of February 2020 in Congress-Center of Sumy State University. The presentation of the book edited by Professor Medani P. Bhandari and Associate Professor Shvindina Hanna was held for the academic scholars in public for community that was presented by journalists, active youth and NGOs. During the meeting Professor Medani Bhandari communicated online and shared his vision of the project and how the idea was born, and why that book is dedicated to Daryna Boronos, and what is the plan for the next one. The endless energy of the professor Bhandari brought the discussion to a new level, with vivid ideas exchange, and inspiration for the next book on Inequality. The second editor, Hanna Shvindina, told about the main requests for authors and challenges they may face in a process of chapters writing and reviewing process. Professor Boronos, the head of the department of finance and entrepreneurship, thanked Professor Bhandari for the book as a team member and as inspiring scholar and urged to continue further cooperation.

24th of January there were the Graduation Ball for the students of our Faculty and both training programs “Administrative Management” and “Project Management”. There were cheers and tears, flowers and songs, hugs and good-byes. The staff of the department congratulated our students who became Masters and now are free to choose their own future! We are proud of our graduates and wish them happy life!

This February the Active Citizens Camp has started that is supported by British Council in Ukraine within the project House of Europe. The NGO “Active Citizens City” hosts the young leaders and changemakers form all the Ukraine. This event involves youth from all the regions of Ukraine. During two days the representatives of Sumy city has shared their stories in a sphere of project of social actions and facilitation of the projects. The head of the department, Hanna Shvindina was a one of the speakers in a format of “Alive Book”. She shared her experience and the contributions of the British Council in her professional growth as a project manager.

It’s worth of mentioning that the achievements of Hanna Shvindina are:

• The project funded by British Council in Ukraine Speaker Fest" (15 000 UAH)
• The project funded by Oblast Government Office “I am young, I dream, I work” (70 000 UAH) that won TOP-5 best youth practice in region.
• The project funded within participatory budget Festival “Sumy of the Future” (198 030 UAH) that won the TOP-5 best projects in Ukraine
• This year the project “Change Leaders” has already won the funding, and the manager of the project is Valenkevich L.

On 21th of January 2020 practitioner Shahov Viktor, the main architect of the oblast during 1986-1992, provided the lecture for students of the training program “ Public Service”. During the meeting, there were a a lot of questions discussed vividly. For instance, there are issues of territorial forming, United Territorial Communities (UTC) development in consideration with the resource potential of the Sumy Oblast, sustainable development and so on.
